Our Mission

Hailing from the shores of Lake Rotoiti, Te Pikikōtuku o Ngāti Rongomai Kapahaka group comprises of descendants of the tribe Ngāti Rongomai. The group, established in 2008, sought to inspire and lead the young people of Ngāti Rongomai into the future with the keys values of whanaungatanga, ahikaa, kaitiakitanga and manaakitanga. Providing our members with the keys to access their own cultural excellence through guidance and valuable leadership. Now, Te Pikikōtuku is a high ranking kapahaka of Aotearoa gaining a 2nd equal overall placing at the 2019 Te Matatini, and consistently placing high in both regional and national competitions. One thing remains firm, our unwavering commitment to our people, to our values and looking ahead to our key aspirations of nuturing our young people in their histories, their language, their culture, and offering them experiences on the national and world stage so that they become our leaders for our people in the future.

Founding Leaders

Tukiterangi and Renata Curtis are the founding leaders of Te Pikikōtuku o Ngāti Rongomai. They have travelled the world representing NZ as ambassadors of kapahaka, mau rakau (māori Martial Arts) and Te Reo Māori. Now, Te Pikikōtuku is fortunate to have leadership and creative teams who are amongst the most talented throughout New Zealand, in music, composition, choreography, haka and poi.

    An experienced, professional, reliable and unpretentious kapa. Many of our members are expert in their fields, highly experienced, expert performers. Singers, musicians, actors and performing artists, we include amongst us Te Reo Māori exponents and cultural experts in traditional Mātauranga Māori.

    Bring skill, passion and vibrancy in our pursuit of sharing our culture with the world, and with our own communities. Our teachings are underpinned in our Ngāti Rongomaitanga, our unique tribal perspectives that we confidently share in multicultural settings.

    Sharing our authentic selves, in order that the experience not only serves to uplift and inspire our own, but provides insight, educates and entertains our audiences.
